Cleanroom flooring

The optimised composition and the highly compressed material make Colorex SD/EC ideally suited for use in cleanrooms. Colorex SD/EC satisfies the highest requirements in particle release behaviour, contributing to a reduction in contamination by airborne particles, which is a major concern in semiconductor manufacturing, causing yield loss, corrosion and product degradation.

The ISO standards for air cleanliness in cleanrooms as well as the cGMP regulations impose strict contamination on pharmaceutical and life science industries. They must present persistent results and compliance must be validated on a regular basis by trusted authorities.

With Colorex SD/EC, Forbo Flooring delivers a floor covering product meeting all of these requirements and regulatory provisions. The cleanroom suitability of Colorex SD/EC has been certified by the renowned Fraunhofer IPA Institute in Germany upon the completion of a comprehensive testing programme.

Healthcare environments

In sensitive hospital areas such as operating theatres, intensive care units and imaging diagnostics, strict hygiene regulations are not the only consideration as floors must also comply with important safety requirements. Most important of all is the necessity to avoid electrostatic discharges, as they can cause unpredictable malfunction or even failure of sensitive medical equipment and devices. Nevertheless, along with safety requirements, high priority must also be given to rigorous hygiene regulations and the prevention of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).

Colorex SD/EC can satisfy both requirement profiles. The negative effects of an accumulation of static electricity can be avoided by their permanent conductive properties. The compact and pore-free surface, hostile to bacteria and moulds, also meets the highest hygiene standards. Moreover, thanks to its excellent chemical stability, optical appearance and functionalities, Colorex SD/EC will not be affected in any way by the repeated cleaning and disinfecting cycles which are typical to hospital environments.

Electronic industry

People are usually the main source of uncontrolled electrostatic discharges. This energy is sufficient enough to damage or destroy sensitive electronic components. Reducing the generation of electrostatic charges is therefore the main scope of comprehensive control measures in ESD protected areas (EPA).

The right floor covering plays a crucial role here. Not only does it drain electrostatic charges from personnel and equipment, but it also reduces the generation of charges there where they occur, at the interface between the sole of the shoe and the floor.

Anybody can accumulate electrostatic charge just by simple motion or walking. By wearing the appropriate ESD shoes, however, these charges will be securely drained through the dense network of conductive veins of Colorex SD/EC.
